Jean Evelyn Mikkelsen

Jean Evelyn Mikkelsen, 92, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2016 at Lilac Homes, Moorhead, MN, surrounded by her loving family. A kind, thoughtful, and caring woman, Jean is survived by son, Bob Mikkelsen, Stillwater, MN; daughters, Carol Mikkelsen, Aurora, CO; Diane McGavin, Fargo, N.D; and grandsons, Jared, Joshua, and Jordan McGavin. She is also survived by a sister, Doris McMahon, Bismarck, ND; brother-in-law, Bill (Pat) Mikkelsen, Livonia, MI; and sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Lane, Roseville, CA. She was preceded in death by her brother, George Nelson of Fargo.

Jean was born in Fargo, ND on January 30, 1923 to Ernest and Johanna Nelson. She graduated from Fargo Central High School and Interstate Business College. She was united in marriage with Robert H. Mikkelsen on February 16, 1947. They were married almost 53 years until his passing on January 15, 2000. Bob and Jean lived in Fargo their entire lives and raised their family there.
Jean was a homemaker, and was very devoted to her family and three children. She became very accomplished with ceramics and knitting, leaving her family and friends beautiful pieces which will always be cherished with her memory. She loved all animals especially her cat Tiger, and also enjoyed spending time with son Bob’s horses when she could. Jean loved life and had a sweet soul, and she touched many lives. She was an amazing Mom and Grandma, and her children and grandsons will forever cherish the times they spent together.

In Bob and Jean’s retirement years she enjoyed spending time at their town house in Mesa, AZ, and she particularly loved spending summers at their lake cottage on Pelican Lake, MN. One of Jean’s greatest passions and happiest times were having her family with her at the lake, and those memories are now cherished by her family and friends.
