Jean Miriam Larson, age of 101, of Fargo, North Dakota, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2024, at Edgewood Vista, surrounded by her children.
Born on October 28, 1922, in Baltimore, Maryland, she was a daughter to William Raymond and Mary (Marie James) McCauley. On September 21, 1947, she was baptized into Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold A. Larson, her eldest daughter, Barbara Jean Larson, and her parents, brothers, and sisters.
After graduating from Western High School at age 16, she worked in the mail room at Maryland Casualty Company for a short time, then as secretary to the Treasurer of Davison Chemical Company. In 1946, she met a young soldier in the Army Intelligence Corp at a USO show in Baltimore, and on October 17, 1947, she married Harold A. Larson of Hope, North Dakota. They moved to Fargo, where Jean worked as a secretary in the Adjudication Department of the Veterans Administration, then at Ford Tractor Company until she became a stay-at-home mom. On January 2, 1962, she became Parish Secretary at Immanuel Lutheran Church, retiring in 1993 after 31 ½ years of service.
Jean enjoyed cooking, baking, Bible study, reading, and entertaining her friends and family at home and at the lake cottage on Little Cormorant that she built with her late husband Harold and her son Steve. She remained, to her final days, a quiet benefactor to many charities.
Jean is survived by two daughters, Janet Rae Turner of Lenexa, KS and Karen (Bernie) Glim of New Lenox, IL; and one son, Steven J. (Jackie) Larson of Sanger, TX; in addition to seven grandchildren, Jamie (Todd) Lehr of Shawnee, KS, Austin (Nikki) Turner of Kansas City, MO, Neko Glim Ashum of New Lenox, IL, Liana Glim Bellina of Palatine, IL, Jesse (Erin) Glim of New Lenox, IL, Rachel (Paul) McGowan of Selma, IN, Kendall Larson of Sanger, TX; and fifteen beautiful great-grandchildren.
Her legacy of faith, hope, charity, and love will long remain.
