Vada Jean May Jenkins, 94, of Fargo, ND, died Friday, March 25, 2011, at Elim Care Center, Fargo, ND. Jean was born to Elmer and Pearl (Mott) May, June 12, 1916, in Fargo. She graduated Central High School and NDAC (now, North Dakota State University) with a degree in Home Economics in 1938. She taught school at Crosby, ND; Delvam and Crookston, MN. She married Lt. Clark J. Jenkins June 21, 1942 in the First Presbyterian Church, Fargo. After being stationed in Texas and Colorado, they returned to the family farm in Erie, ND for 12 years and then made their home in Fargo. They had two sons. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, Erie Women’s Community Club, Eastern Star, P.E.O. Chapter AU, President of the Presbyterian Women’s Association, and director of the St. Lukes Hospital Board. She volunteered for many charitable organizations and was active in the community. She was a life long member of First Presbyterian Church, Fargo. Jean was an avid knitter, enjoyed cross stitch, working crossword puzzles and reading. She was a master at games of solitaire and a member of many bridge clubs. Jean and Clark enjoyed wintering in Arizona and spending their summers at their cabin on Pelican Lake. Clark died in 1990. Jean is survived by two sons, James B. (Dorinda) Puyallup, WA; and Brent T. (Pamela) Fargo, ND; one sister-in-law, Lucille B. May; four granddaughters, Shelby Lee Jenkins, Los Angeles, CA; Janna M. Boelke (Mark), Santa Monica, CA; Shannon Addison (John), Fife, WA; Sydney Jenkins, Puyallup, WA; four great-grandchildren, Owen J. Boelke and Liam C. Boelke, Santa Monica, CA; Blake R. Jenkins, Los Angeles, CA; and Sarah M. Addison, Fife, WA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clark; and a brother, Leland May. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, April 7, 2011, 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church, Fargo, ND. Luncheon will be served directly after the service.
