Jean E. (Palmer) Herman was born in Fairmont, Minnesota on July 10, 1924 to Ruth and Ruben Palmer. She grew up in Fairmont and attended high school there. She received a B.A. in Art from Hamline University in 1947.
In 1950, Jean married the love of her life, Charles Herman. Charles served in the Army during the Korean War and they were stationed in Salzburg, Austria. They returned to farm for many years with Charles’ father. They moved to Fargo where Jean was a homemaker, worked part-time at Dayton’s and for many years as a realtor. Jean served in the House of Representatives for the State of North Dakota for two terms. They lived in Carlsbad and Cardiff, California for many years before returning to live in Fargo in 1998. Jean moved to Alexandria, Virginia to be with her daughter in 2011.
Jean passed away June 1, 2018. She is survived by her sister, Peggy Johnstone; son, Paul Herman; daughter, Holly (Herman) Butler; and grandchildren, Leah, Emily and Michelle Herman.
