Janice Gira, 81, Dilworth, MN died Friday March 14, 2025 at Lilac Homes under the care of Hospice and surrounded by her family.

Janice Louise Kern was born July 20, 1943, to Melvin and Marian Kern in Wadena, MN. She went to District 15 country school and graduated from Wadena High in 1961. Janice was a member of Wadena Junior 4-H Club where she showed cattle at the Wadena County Fair and Minnesota State Fair. She won many ribbons for her Golden Guernsey cows and received the 4-H Key Award in 1961.

Janice attended Interstate Business College in Fargo where she graduated with a degree in accounting and business law. She worked as a nanny while attending college and later at Border States Electric.

She met the love of her life, Charles Gira, on February 14, 1969. They married on September 20, 1969 and made their home in Fargo with their two children, David and Mary.

Janice was very active in Boy Scouts as a den leader and Scoutmaster and Girl Scouts as a leader and North Fargo Service Chair. She was also active in PTA.

Janice helped start the Adopt-A-Street project after meeting with Dennis Walaker (Fargo Mayor) and the Fargo Street Department about cleaning the roadsides in Fargo. Janice and Charles cleaned 19th Ave N for over 25 years.

Janice and Charles loved to fish and camp and had a seasonal spot on Twin and Rose Lakes for many years. She loved being outdoors working, especially blowing snow and helping her neighbors with their driveways and sidewalks. She proudly attended every event for her children from school programs to swimming, dance, and later for her grandchildren who were involved in wrestling, volleyball, hockey, tennis and dance.

She is survived by her son, David (Vicki) Gira of Fargo; daughter, Mary (Chad) Moen of Fargo; grandchildren, Riley (Chelsea) Gira, Rayessa Gira, Benjamin Moen and Abigail Moen all of Fargo; siblings, Patricia Lawyer of Fargo, Gerald (Ivy) Kern of Wadena, MN and Linda (LeRoy) Kern-Kolquist of Bradenton, FL. She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years; her parents; brother, Charles Kern; and nephews, Steve Kern and Michael Kern.

A memorial service will be held Friday April 4, 2025 at 6 pm with visitation one hour prior at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home in Fargo. Burial will be at a later date at Holy Cross Cemetery in north Fargo.

Memorials are preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley, Girl Scouts Dakota Horizon or Northern Lights Council, Boy Scouts of America.
