James D. “Jim” Lee, 77, of Fargo, ND, passed away on Thursday, September 1, 2011, at ManorCare Health Services, Fargo, ND. James was born in 1934 in Jamestown, North Dakota, son of Arnold and Alice (Peterson) Lee. He graduated from Jamestown High School and attended Jamestown College before entering the US Army. After a tour of duty with the Signal Corps that included service at SHAPE Headquarters in Paris, he returned to Jamestown and was employed with the US Postal Service as a Letter Carrier. He subsequently transferred to West Fargo and served there until his retirement in 1997. He graduated from Moorhead State University in 1993. He married Doreen Clark in 1971 in Jamestown. Jim was active in Democratic politics, serving as Chair of District 27 and judge of elections, National Active and Retired Federal Employees, where he was president of the Fargo-Moorhead chapter, Toastmasters International, where he held several club and area offices as a member of several clubs, most recently Continuum Toastmasters of Fargo. James was instrumental in developing a summer speech program for children and was an avid writer to the “Letters to the Editor” and other publications. Jim is survived by his wife, Doreen, Fargo, ND; daughter, Debra Hibbs, Damascus, OR; and two grandchildren, Rachel Hibbs and Amy Olson; two great-grandchildren, Hanna and Ava Olson; two sisters, Janice Hunt, Bismarck, ND; and Karen Hilsgen, Lincoln, NE; and a brother, Garry Lee, Fort Worth, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Alice Lee; and his son, Jimmy.
