James D. Runsvold, 84, of Scottsdale, AZ formerly of Fargo, ND, died Friday, August 23, 2013 at Thompson Peak Medical Center in Scottsdale, AZ.
James was born February 9, 1929 in Kalispell, MT.
He graduated Fargo Central High School in 1947. After high school he attended the University of Minnesota and received a degree in Mortuary Science. Then he received a B.A. degree from Concordia College, Moorhead in 1951.
Jim married Doris Ann Hinze in Oak Park, IL on June 24, 1950.
He worked as a funeral director at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home from 1950 to 1983, when he retired and was co-owner from 1971-1982. He has been the past president of Fargo Jaycees, Fargo Board of Education and Bethany Homes Board of Directors.
Jim had a great sense of humor and loved to do crossword puzzles. He loved the game of golf and was quite good at it. He did not take up the game of golf until his late 30s, but still managed to score eight holes in one. He will be missed.
He is survived by his wife, Doris, Scottsdale, AZ; son, John (Cyd) Runsvold, Fargo, ND; two daughters, Carol (Bruce) Brierley, Mesa, AZ and Cathy (Mike) Funovits, Sartell, MN; eight grandchildren, Susan Miller, Stacy (Ryan) Miller Howlett, Jordan (Jeny) Runsvold, Rachel (Jared) Blankenship, Lauren Runsvold (Jay Siebels), Ben (Sam) Funovits, Sam Funovits, and Bryan Brierley, and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Gunda Runsvold and brother, Paul Runsvold.
