Jack Duane Westra died December 8, 2008, at North Country Regional Hospital in Bemidji, Minnesota. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, December 12th at First Lutheran Church in Fargo. Jack was born December 17, 1925, in Inwood, Iowa, to Ray and Agnes (Norton) Westra. The family moved to Forman, North Dakota, where Jack was educated and after graduating from Forman High School, he enlisted in the U.S. AIr Force and was stationed at Keesler AFB, Biloxi, Mississippi. After military service, he attended NDSU, graduating in 1954. He married Alice Abrahamson in 1953. After graduation, he was employed by North Dakota Extension Service as Asst. County Agent, Ward County, County Agent in Burke County and subsequently as N.D. State 4-H Leader until retiring in 1985. Upon his wife's retirement, Jack and Alice moved to their lake home on Leech Lake, Walker, Minnesota, where he enjoyed his summer hobbies of fishing and gardening; for many winters they enjoyed their time at their Biloxi, Mississippi, home. Jack is survived by his wife; sons, John of Fargo, ND; Thomas and Ann of Moorhead, MN; Timothy (Angie Stovall) of Haughton, LA.; Terence and Mary of Maple Grove, MN; daughter, Janell and Pat Bushaw of Manvel, ND.; three grand children, Nicholas at NDSU, Rachel and Steven of Maple Grove, MN. He is also survived by seven siblings and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and infant daughter.
