Jack M. Dorrance, age 100, died at St. Catherine's North in Fargo on Thursday, April 27, 2023. Jack was born on April 11, 1923, the youngest child of William and Lucy Dorrance in Ayr, North Dakota. He attended school in Ayr and graduated in 1940. Jack joined the navy and served in World War II as a 2nd Class Petty Officer signalman on various LST's (Tank Landing Ship) in the Pacific. On February 20, 1956, Jack married Dehebe Kadri.
They made their home in Glenfield, North Dakota, where Jack was a Depot agent and telegrapher. In his younger years, he was an avid fisherman and hunter.
They moved to Fargo in 1983. In his retirement years, he enjoyed gardening, reading, and meeting with Patty, Donnie, and Debby Frank and Elaine Metzel for "Tuesdays with Jack," where they would enjoy fellowship, food, and conversations about the past. Jack had a phenomenal memory about old movies, songs, rhymes, poems, and historical events.
Jack is survived by his sons, Michael of Page, North Dakota, Billy(Cyndi) of Lake Park, Minnesota, and Ally(Clarice) of Springfield, Missouri; grandchildren, Noah, Kate, Justin, and Jamie; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; nephews, Billy, Gary, Reid, Tommy; niece, Barbara; dear friends, Patty, Debby, and Donnie Frank, Elaine Metzel and Ghalie Abraham; and extended family and friends.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Dehebe; his daughter, Lucy; brother, William; sister, Harriet; and nephew, Jerry.
