Irene Hehr, 88, of Fargo, ND, died Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Villa Maria Nursing Home, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Irene Martha Hehr was born March 8, 1925 in rural Kulm, ND to August and Maria (Kalmbach) Hehr. She attended school in Pomona View Township, school #4, and in 1935 moved to Kulm with her parents where she finished elementary school and graduated from high school in 1943. She taught rural school near Fredonia for two years and was employed at Anderson Store and Peoples Store in Kulm.
On July 21, 1946, she married Albert Hehr. Following their marriage, the Hehrs farmed 5 ½ miles southeast of Kulm in Dickey county, until October, 1955, when they moved to Kulm.
Irene was employed at Art’s Grocery Store and at Palm’s Department Store, was Manager-Treasurer of the Kulm Credit Union, and was later employed at the Kulm Messenger from 1973 to 1988.
Irene is survived by her four children, Sharyn Marier, Casselton, ND; James (Charlotte) Hehr, Fargo, ND; John (Linda) Hehr, Kulm, ND; Anita (Kelly) Kittelson, Fargo, ND; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Ruth Schuldheisz.
She was preceded in death by her husband; grandson, David Marier; nine siblings.
Memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association, Hospice of the Red River Valley, or a charity of choice.
