Irene M. Alfstad, 94, of Fargo, North Dakota passed away peacefully on May 2, 2008 in Bethany Homes in Fargo. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at 3:00pm at First Lutheran Church in Fargo. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Irene Margaret Ellingson was born September 18, 1913 in Maddock, ND. One of five children, the family moved to Rolette, ND several years later where Irene grew into womanhood and attended school. She married Norman Alfstad on June 5, 1935 in Rolette. Norman worked a variety of jobs which kept the family moving throughout the state. During the next 10 years, the couple welcomed four children. They settled in Fargo in 1958. In addition to caring for her family and home, Irene worked at the Virginia Flora Shop in downtown Fargo for many years. She was a dedicated member of First Lutheran Church. Irene was preceded in death by her parents and siblings; her husband Norman; and three children; Gary, Robert and Sherry. She is survived by one daughter, Jackie (Don) Packer of Barnesville, MN; four grandchildren; Kim (Dean) Bartz of Cologne, MN; Ed (Nancy) Packer of Maplewood, MN; Ann (Brian) Packer-Smith of Minneapolis, MN; and Kenn (Andrea) Packer of Barnesville. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
