Ione Lucille Meland Palmer, 90, passed away November 16, 2019 in Fargo. Ione was born August 1, 1929 in Wellsburg, ND. She grew up in Wellsburg and graduated from Harvey High School. She attended the University of North Dakota and Interstate Business College. On June 18, 1950 she married Howard Palmer. They moved to Fargo in 1960 where they raised their three children.
Ione worked for nearly 30 years as a bookkeeper for St. Ansgar and St. Johns hospitals before retiring. She and Howard enjoyed summers at Cotton Lake and winters traveling the country in their motor home. Ione was an accomplished seamstress who enjoyed all types of needlework, especially knitting. She greatly enjoyed spending summertime at the lake with her grandchildren and was always up for a tubing trip down the Ottertail River.
She is survived by her three children, Bruce (Debbie) of Alice, ND; Boyd (Doris) of Fargo; and Jeanne of Millcreek, UT; five grandchildren, Karly (Nathan) Hippe and their three children; Jamie (Bryan) Anderson and their two children; LeeAnn (Tom) Miller and their child; Kelsey Krogen and Kaitlyn Krogen as well as two step-grandchildren, Shane (Tina) Edlund and their three children, Chastity (Jon) Isom and their three children.
Ione was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Mabel Meland; her husband, Howard; brother, Lyle; and grandson, Jeremy.
Ione’s family would like to offer their thanks to the staff of Elim Care Center for the wonderful care they provided Ione over the last several years.
