Ila Young

Ila Elaine Young, 92, passed away on Thursday, July 4th, 2013 at Sanford Health in Fargo, North Dakota.

Ila was born on September 4, 1920 in Ceylon, MN to William and Ida (Schoeppach) Hickman. Ila graduated in 1938 from Colgate High School in Colgate, North Dakota and she went on to earn her beautician certification in Fargo, North Dakota. On July 22, 1939, Ila married James (Jim) Young in Steele County. They raised five children: Janet, James Jr., Jacquelyn (Jackie), Joel, and Jayson. Jim and Ila made their home on a farm outside of Hope for several years, where Jim farmed and Ila worked at the Johnson’s Store, until moving to Fargo. After moving with her husband and children to Fargo, she began her twenty plus year career with Sears and Roebuck. Ila was very dedicated to her family and managed to find time in her busy schedule to be there for all music, sporting, and church events. She was an active member of First Methodist Church in Fargo and was a member of the church choir for several years.

After Jim’s death in 1992, Ila split her time between Arizona and North Dakota for many years. Ila
dearly loved her family and was always proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren throughout her life. She happily displayed the many pictures and cards that her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren often sent. Ila would proudly talk about the special memories she shared with each of them. Ila was welcoming to those who joined her family through marriage as well. Ila shared her genuine love and kindness with all, and she will be deeply missed.

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, daughter, Janet, son, James Jr., brothers Eli, Hale, and Milton, and sister, Mabel Stubson. Ila is survived by her daugther-in law Ann (James Jr.) Young of Flint, Michigan, daughter Jackie (Doug) Schlenker of Goodyear, Arizona, son Joel (Rhonda) Young of Fargo, and son Jayson (Sandy Miltimore) of Chandler, Arizona, and 23 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Visitation: Tuesday, July 9, 2013 from 6:00 – 7:00 PM at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, followed by a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM.

Burial: Wednesday, July 10, 2013, 11:00 AM at Hope Cemetery, Hope, ND.

Memorial Service: Wednesday, July 17, 2013, 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church, Colgate, ND.

Visitation: One hour prior to services at the church.
