Idella Vernell Wilson

Idella Vernell Ruff Schott Wilson died peacefully on October 6, 2018, at Bethany on University in Fargo, ND.​​

Idella was born July 21, 1929 in rural Fredonia, North Dakota to Edward Ruff and Pauline (Erbele) Ruff. She graduated from Lehr High School, Lehr, ND, attended Ellendale Normal College, Ellendale, ND where she received her teaching certificate. She taught school from 1947-1949. Idella married Clifford C. Schott on June 12, 1949 in Kulm, North Dakota. They farmed west of Kulm. Idella accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior during Mission Fest at the Kulm Congregational Church in her late twenties. Clifford passed away in 1967. She relocated to Fargo, ND with her four children. While living in Fargo she worked at North Dakota State University, St. John’s Hospital, and Fargo Clinic.

On June 30, 1974, in Fargo, ND Idella married Wayne Wilson, from Enderlin, ND. After their marriage she moved to Enderlin, where she was active in the community and the United Methodist Church. While living in Enderlin she worked at the Citizens National Bank.

Wayne and Idella moved to Fargo in 1984. She was an active member of Calvary United Methodist Church. She was a member of Dorcas and United Methodist Women’s Dorcas for 67 years. She had many hobbies which included painting, ceramics, gardening, traveling, volunteering, cooking, and baking. She often tried new recipes. In fact, she published her own cookbook; Family Favorites. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends. She was known for her kindness often sharing her baked goodies with family, neighbors, and friends.

She is survived by her children, Clydine (Darryl) Fey, Hawley, MN; Cynthia (John) Nubel, Battle Creek, MI; Colleen (Roy) Johnson, Lake Zurich, IL; and Cordell (Pamela) Schott, Fargo, ND and Wayne’s children Mark (Elinda) Wilson, Antalya, Turkey; Marla (Kurt) Eichmeier; Snohomish, WA; Mari Beth Wilson, Seattle, WA.

Twenty grandchildren: Matthew (Kim) Fey, Hawley, MN; Stacia (Terel) Beppu, Sunnyvale, CA; Christa Fey, (Andy Werner), Moorhead, MN; Michael (Haley) Nubel, Brighton, MI; Roy C. (Laura) Johnson, Kansas City, MO; and Adam (Brittny) Johnson, Berthoud, CO; Collin Schott, Fargo, ND; Kara Schott (fiancé Christian Thompson), Fargo, ND; and Laura (Garret) Bunn, Eagan, MN; Leilani (Erik) Jensen, Seattle, WA; Winema (Eric) Lanoue, Radford, VA; James Wilson, Seattle, WA; David (Heather) Wilson, Murrieta, CA; Jennifer (Jonathan) Gatherers, Snohomish, WA; Megan (Adam) Hudson, Snohomish, WA; Bryce Eichmeier, Snohomish, WA; Timothy Betterley, Seattle, WA; Elexis (Benjamin) Lewis, Portland, OR; Chelsey Betterley, Hood River, OR; Austin (Nicole) Betterley, Mukilteo, WA.

Twenty one great-grandchildren: Jacob Fey, Cade and Bram Beppu, Noah Nubel, Oliver Johnson and great grandson Johnson due in November, Isaac and Zoe Johnson, Lila Jensen, Ezra, Zebulon and Vivienne Lanoue, Simeon, Nathan, Jordan, and Bethany Wilson, Jillian and Jocelyn Gatherers, Taylor and Casey Hudson and Noelle Eichmeier.

One brother, Darrel (Etala) Ruff; two sisters, Merrilyn Meland and Carol (Roger) Azzam, and nieces and nephews who all had a special place in her heart.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Clifford C. Schott and Wayne A. Wilson, her parents, Edward and Pauline Ruff, sister, Arlene Joyce Ruff, brother, Larry Ruff, brothers-in-law, Wallace Meland and Marvin Mayer, and sister-in-law, Sharon Ruff.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Idella’s memory to Calvary United Methodist Church, Fargo, ND or McCoy Ministries, Jamestown, ND.
