Helge Rommesmo was born April 4, 1934, in Orkanger, Norway to Ole and Anne Rommesmo. He passed away peacefully on June 18, surrounded by family and Sanford Hospice Care. He grew up attending school in Orkanger. He was an all-around athlete competing in track & field, soccer, and ski jumping. He was also voted the all-around athlete for the town of Orkanger in 1949. He married the love of his life, Martha Synnove Olsen on November 6, 1954, and on November 6, 1957, they decided to pack up and move to America, settling in Fargo, N.D.
Helge worked for Fargo Tank Co. and then transferred to Minn-Kota Mfg, where the Minn-Kota trolling motor was made, transferring back to Fargo Tank Co. and finishing out his career estimating in tank sales until he retired in 2001. He enjoyed spending time at Crystal Lake near Pelican Rapids with his children and grandchildren. He was an active member of the Sons of Norway since 1960, serving as President of Kringen Lodge and also as President of Kringen Klub. He was involved in starting Lutefisk Dinners at the Sons of Norway back in 1980 and continued for 38 years until it was time to retire from that also.
Helge is survived by his sons, Stein (Stacy) Rommesmo, Glen (Lynne) Rommesmo, and Eric (Kim) Rommesmo, all of Fargo; six grandchildren, Karee, Daniel, Kristian, Jennifer, Kjell, and Robynn: eleven great-grandchildren; brother, Kolbjorn (Solvi) Rommesmo of Fargo; two brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law all in Norway; along with several nieces and nephews in Norway and America.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Synnove; his parents; and brother-in-law, Einar Breunig.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Sanford Hospice.
