Helen Jean (Simmons) Settles was born December 29, 1928 in Holly Hill, Florida.
With her determination she put herself through college and graduated from Florida State University in 1949.
She met and married a sailor, Robert W. Settles, in 1952. They lived in Laurel, Maryland. After raising her two sons, Helen went back to school and earned a degree from the University of Maryland. She ended her career by being the first woman to hold the position of Chief Safety Officer for Walter Reed Army Hospital.
Helen and Robert then retired to Florida, coming to Fargo to live with family in 2009.
Helen Settles was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Settles. She is survived by her son, Wesley and his wife Theresa and grandchildren, Jenni, Robert, and Kimmie. She is also survived by her brother Buddy and sister Mary Jo.
In lieu of flowers or memorials, Helen’s family requests that kind deeds be shared with those around us.
