Helen Oesterreich

Helen Oesterreich, 84, of Fargo, ND, died surrounded by family at MeritCare Palliative Care in Fargo, on Sunday, November 23, 2008. Helen Lillian Dahl was born July 25, 1924, to John and Inga (Bakken) Dahl at McClusky, North Dakota. She grew up in McClusky and graduated from high school in 1942. Helen graduated from the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, North Dakota, in 1946, with a Bachelors Degree in Psychology. Helen married Vern Oesterreich July 26, 1947, at McClusky. They lived in Bemidji, Minnesota, until moving to Fargo in 1961. They moved to Spokane, Washington, in 1961 and returned to Fargo in 1974. She was an avid sports fan, especially for the Minnesota Vikings and UND Sioux. She enjoyed playing golf and in her late years, following golf tournaments at Moorhead Country Club. Helen is survived by her daughter, Carol Artery, Wheatland, WY; two grandchildren, Nicole and Jermey Artery. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Sandra; and her infant son; three brothers and one sister; and many nieces and nephews. Memorials are preferred to the First Lutheran Church Radio Fund. Memorial Service: Saturday, November 29, 2008, at 11:00 AM, at First Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND.
