Harry Will Moore, 82 of Fargo, ND died Friday, February 20, 2009 at Rosewood on Broadway surrounded by family. Harry was born February 22, 1926 in Valley City, ND to Dr. Max and Hilda (Gotschall) Moore. He grew up in Valley City were he graduated high school, before enlisting into the US Navy V-12 program in 1943, serving in underwater demolition and as shipboard communication officer during WWII. He returned to Valley City State Teachers college and graduated with a degree in teaching. In 1951, he was recalled to active duty and served in the special communication unit in the western Pacific during the Korean Conflict. Returning home, he married Yvonne Larson February 27, 1954 in Ashland, Wisconsin. Harry joined the staff of the Valley City Times Record as writer and editor. Then moved to Fargo in 1963 to write and edit for the Fargo Forum. In 1967 he became Department Membership Director for the ND American Legion moving up to Assistant Department Adjutant until his retirement in 1988. He maintained his Navy affiliation through the Reserve programs and retired at the rank of commander in 1972 after 30+ years and was elected American Legion State Department Commander 1991-92. Harry enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, the outdoors and had a great love for music. He was an active member in many bands throughout the area including the American Legion State Band, El Zagel Shrine Circus Band, the Shrine Imperial Band and the Red River Valley Veteran’s Band. He was proud to serve his country and was an active member in many other Service organizations. Harry was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife, Yvonne and four children, Kirby Moore, Fargo; Kathy (Rick) Hadland, Kindred; Randy (Pat) Moore, Kindred; Maureen Moore, Fargo and four grandchildren, Michael Moore, Nicole Moore, Fargo; Rachelle and Roderick Hadland, Kindred. Memorials can be sent to the American Legion Trust fund or memorials of your choosing. Memorial Service: Tuesday, February 24, 2009, 2:00 PM at First United Methodist Church, Fargo. Burial: North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
