Harriet Reitan

Harriet Ione, 85, of Fargo, ND, died Monday, June 21, 2010, at Elim Care Center, Fargo. Harriet Ione Nelson was born July 31, 1924, in Portland, North Dakota, daughter of Henry and Gina (Melvie) Nelson. She was baptized in Clifford, North Dakota and was confirmed in Stordalen Holmes, North Dakota. She attended grade school in Clifford and graduated from high school in Reynolds in 1943. Harriet graduated from School of Nursing in 1945. Harriet married Olaf Reitan June 30, 1947, in Osakis, Minnesota. She worked at the Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota until 1964. Harriet was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. She moved to Fargo in 1964. Because of disabling rheumatoid arthritis, Harriet moved to independent living center with assistance at New Horizon Manor in 1980. While attending home bible studies Harriet accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and Lord in 1987. When able, she would attend Temple Baptist Church in Fargo. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Olaf; an infant son and sister-in-law, Gyda; step-mother, Margaret, and sister-in-law, Lorna. Harriet is survived by two sons and a daughter, Harlan (Vickie) Reitan, Memphis, TN; Jan (Gregg) Hagen, Lake Park, MN; Rick (Jeanne) Reitan, Lakeville, MN; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Glenn Nelson, Grand Forks, ND; Ellef Nelson, Robinsdale, MN; sister, Arla Mae (Gerald) Kuster, Reynolds, ND. Memorial Service: Saturday, June 26, 2010, at 10:00 AM, at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, ND. Visitation: Friday, June 25, 2010, from 5-7 PM, at Hanson-Runsvold. Inurnment: Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead, MN.
