Harriet Louise Larsen Helland, 90, passed away on March 10, 2013, at Hi-Acres, Eventide, in Jamestown, ND. She was born August 9, 1922, in Fargo, ND, to Harry and Mable (Anderson) Larsen, Harwood. She attended school at Prosper, ND, and graduated from Oak Grove High School, and Moorhead State Teachers College, earning a degree in elementary education. In 1946, she married Lester Helland of Amenia, ND. She taught multiple grades in rural schools in Cass county for many years.
Harriet and Lester were members of Messiah Lutheran Church located in North Fargo. She was very active in one of the circles, altar guild, and much more within the Church. They were involved in local square dancing clubs and would travel the United States and Canada to square dance. They also enjoyed ballroom dancing, Friday and Saturday nights were always at the Elks or Eagles dancing. Harrient was active in the Shrine Ladies activities at El Zagal Shrine Club. She was an avid bridge player and a member of several clubs. Harriet also enjoyed Bingo.
She is survived by a daughter, Gloria (Eric) Nelson, Fargo, grandson, Brent (Judy), Macon, GA and Great granddaughter, Taylor, Macon, GA. A son, Robert (Tanis), Beaverton, OR and grandsons, Brent (Emily) and Cameron, all of Portland, OR.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Mabel Larsen, her spouse, Lester Helland, and two brothers, Ralph Larsen and Donald Larsen.
Honorary casket bearers will be, Roger Larsen, Russell Larsen, Robert Larsen, Dane Larsen, David Helland, and Lee Dobrinz.
