Harold Vilhauer, 90, Fargo, died Thursday, July 23, 2015 in Villa Maria Nursing Home surrounded by family.
Harold was born May 22, 1925 to August and Anna Vilhauer in Hosmer, SD. He grew up on a farm near Hosmer. Harold served in the United States Army and was stationed in the Philippines and then in South Korea until 1946.
On June 7, 1947 Harold married Lillian Sayler in Jamestown, ND. They farmed in South Dakota until moving to Jamestown in 1954. Harold worked for Equity Creamery and then Cass Clay Creamery after they purchased Equity, and eventually transferred to Fargo in 1965. He worked as a Retail Salesman for Cass Clay until his retirement in 1986.
Harold was a wonderful husband to Lillian and a great father to their four children, David, Lois, Mary and Tim. Harold spent most of his free time serving his Lord and Savior by volunteering at his church. He served many terms on Deacon Boards, helped with several building projects, served in the children’s bus ministry, was a Sunday School teacher, and helped anywhere else as needed. He also had several hobbies. He enjoyed traveling, reading, woodworking, painting, and spending time with his grandchildren, Dalynne, Jeffery, Nicholas, Emily, Lisa, and Laura.
Harold is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lillian, of Fargo; daughters, Lois (Gary) Withnell, Mary Vilhauer (Ted), both of Fargo; son, Tim (Amy) Vilhauer, Fargo; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Cariens, Fairfield, Illinois; grandchildren, Dalynne Nyiri, Avondale, AZ, Jeffery (Melissa) Cariens, Mt. Vernon, IL, Nicholas Withnell, Fargo, Emily (Sam) Twedt, McHenry, ND, Lisa (Mike) Jensen, Fargo, Laura Vilhauer, Fargo; and great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Chase, Nora, Brynn, and Julia. He is also survived by sisters, Olga, Delores, Geraldine, and Luella.
He was preceded in death by his son, David; great-granddaughter, Kaylin; brothers, Elyard, Calvin, and Morris, and sisters, Anna, Rebecca, and Alma.
