Harold E. Meidlinger passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at the Veterans Hospital in Fargo surrounded by his loving family.
Harold was born on May 28, 1932 in Council Bluffs, Iowa where he graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School before joining the Air Force. He was stationed in England from 1951 to 1955 where he met the love of his life, his wife Hazel Wardle.
After returning to the U.S. with his wife and daughter, they settled in Council Bluffs, IA where Harold began his career, first as a meat cutter and then as a salesman for Hobart Sales and Service. Eventually this led him to purchase a Hobart Agency in 1971, relocating the family to Fargo, ND. After achieving several Top Salesman Awards, Harold retired in 1997.
Following his retirement, Harold spent leisurely time at his lake home at Star Lake where he enjoyed giving pontoon rides, touring the lake before selling the home. His favorite relaxation and entertainment spot then became Las Vegas where he divided his time between the video poker machines and taking his family out to dine at various restaurants. One of his most treasured moments was being surrounded by his family while enjoying a delectable meal.
Harold was also passionate about his grandchildren and cats. He enjoyed nothing better than to regale anyone who would listen about the antics of both.
Harold is preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Cecil Meidlinger, two brothers, Michael Meidlinger and Alfred Meidlinger, and one sister, Francis White.
Harold is survived by his wife of 60 years Hazel; four daughters: Kim (Darrel) Horab; Karla (Kevin) Homan; Lisa (Jim Leyden) Meidlinger and Jamie (Scott Pelzer) Meidlinger; five grandchildren: Elizabeth, Alexander and Samantha Horab, and Benjamin and Marcus Homan, and cats Tony and Sadie May at home. He is also survived by his siblings Madeline Teague and Richard Meidlinger.
