Harold Golliet

Harold J. Golliet, 86, of Fargo, ND, died Wednesday, January 14, 2009, at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo. Harold Julius Golliet was born April 12, 1922, in Beach, North Dakota, the son of Homer and Minnie (Hernes) Golliet. Harold was in the Coast Guard where he met Violet in Alaska, as she was also in the Coast Guard. They were united in marriage April 12, 1946, in Casselton, North Dakota. Harold was so clever. He picked the date so he wouldn’t forget. They made their home in Durbin, North Dakota. Harold worked at Fargo Glass and Paint. In 1955, they moved to Nome, North Dakota, and started farming. He retired in 1995. Harold and Violet enjoyed living on the farm and during the summer went to the lake. Harold enjoyed fishing for sunfish. They loved people coming out to visit. Harold moved to Fargo in 2002, after the loss of Violet. He liked living in town and meeting new and old friends. He met a wonderful lady, Louella Ortberg. They were very special friends and companions. Harold enjoyed eating lutefisk and was always looking for the next place to eat. Harold’s family wants to thank Lou for the love and care she gave Harold. Harold is survived by his son, Duane (Sue) Golliet, Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Brian (Bobbie) Golliet; Rachel (Justin) Golliet, all of Salt Lake City, UT; Kirk (Chayla) Golliet, West Fargo, ND; Heather (Adam) Endres, Moorhead, MN; step-grandchildren, Chas Peppel, Livingston, MT: Chris Peppel, Kailua Kona, HI; Mary Peppel; Tarah Sather, both of Fargo, ND; Kayla Sather, Moorhead, MN; 10 great-grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren; brother, Merrill Golliet, Edina, MN; brother-in-law, Bernie Bennett, Highland, IN; sister, Betty Helland, Moorhead, MN; many nieces and nephews; and his very special friend, Lou Ortberg. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Minnie; wife, Violet; daughter, Linda Gilmore; son, Jay Golliet; and his sister, Doris Bennett. Memorial Service: Monday, January 19, 2009, at 11:00 AM, at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, ND. Inurnment: Riverside Cemetery, Fargo, ND.
