Hans Halverson

Hans A. Halverson, 90, Fargo, ND died Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at Sanford Health, Fargo. Hans Alvin Halverson was born on November 19, 1920 in Northwood, North Dakota to Alvin A. and Hilda (Gunderson) Halverson. He graduated from Northwood High School in 1938. He married LaVerne O. Anderson June 26, 1946 in Fargo. Hans attended the Interstate Business School and St. Olaf College before joining the U.S. Army. He served from 1942 – 1946 as a Norwegian/German language specialist. Hans worked at Standard Oil in Fargo and Schum Pontiac in Fargo for nine years. He owned a Ford dealership in Mayville, North Dakota, for three years before becoming a partner in Tri State Auto Auction, with his best friend, H. A. “Red” Johnson. They worked together for 20 years. Later, Hans became a partner in G. B. Haug Construction, before becoming an independent developer. Hans was always a man in a shirt and tie, but he was best recognized as a man who loved being at his lake cabin on Lake Melissa and spending time with his family. He always looked forward to spending the winters in the Phoenix area. He had a passion for cars and his favorite hobby was wood carving. Hans is survived by his wife, LaVerne; children, Steve (Kay) Halverson; Patti (Ed) Morrow; J. Douglas (Sue) Halverson; and brother, Curtis (Norma) Halverson, all of Fargo, ND; eight grandchildren, Mark, Brian, Nick, Ross and Andrew Halverson; Heidi McDonald; Steve and Rick Morrow; eight great-grandchildren; nephews, Alan and Paul (Katy) Halverson. Memorials are preferred to the Sanford Foundation; First Lutheran Foundation; Sons of Norway or the donor’s choice. Funeral Service: Thursday, December 23, 2010, at 1:00 PM, at First Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND. Visitation: Wednesday, December 22, 2010, from 5-7 PM, at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, ND, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Burial: Riverside Cemetery, Fargo, ND.
