Grant David Simonson was born April 10, 1984, to Gary and Faith Simonson at St. John’s Hospital in Fargo, ND. Grant was raised in Fargo. He was baptized, confirmed, and married in First Lutheran Church. The foundation of Grant’s Christian faith was built at home, and further fostered by trips and activities through First Lutheran. He attended Lincoln Elementary, Agassiz Junior High, and Fargo South High.
After a semester at Concordia College, he realized that the working world and sales was his calling. He started his career at Team Electronics. Grant then went to work at Corwin Honda where he was recognized by a recruiter, which led to a career in automotive finance. Grant worked in many sales jobs during his career, and he could sell a cherry popsicle to a person in white gloves. He loved people, and he was quick to make a joke and share a laugh.
Grant married Lyndsey Patnaude on September 26, 2015, at First Lutheran Church. They have one daughter, Claire Rae. Claire is a joy and shining light, whom he adored completely. Grant also loved his dog Sophie. Although she was not the hunting dog he planned for, she was an excellent companion and always by his side.
More than anything, Grant loved hunting with his dad. He would tell these stories to anyone who would listen. He was a lifetime member of the North Dakota Bow Hunters Association, as well as a member of Muskies Inc. Grant enjoyed the shooting sports, especially when he outshot his dad and brother. He was also an avid fisherman. He loved fishing with his buddies for walleyes, muskies, sturgeon, and really anything that swam. Grant was known among his friends as the cook, and they were always happy when he was in charge of dinner. At a very young age, he developed his culinary skills during “Gourmet Club” with his aunt Dede and uncle Rich, mom, dad, and brother. He continued to hone his cooking skills with smoking and grilling meats. Whether it was vinyl records, high end stereos, biking, or a variety of other things, Grant was always absorbing and sharing information about his passions. He would be upset if we did not mention his love of the NDSU Bison. Grant also loved racing cars, and lived life at full speed. His love was fierce, and you always knew if Grant loved you. His spark and enthusiasm cannot be adequately captured in words. Grant reveled in being the fun uncle and adored his nieces and nephew. Despite these amazing qualities, Grant lost his battle with mental health and alcoholism in the end.
Grant will be dearly missed by his parents, Gary and Faith Simonson; his brother Greg Simonson and his sister-in-law Noelle McComb Simonson; Lyndsey Simonson and their daughter Claire; his grandma Betty Simonson; his uncles and aunts Rich and Dede Kolotkin; Leslie Pender; Jerry and Debbie Nordby; Ron and Becky Day; Jon and Brenda Simonson; Steve and Chris Anderson; and his cousins Adam Nordby (Ellie); Seth Simonson (Ashley); Amanda Nordby; Chloe Simonson; Luke Simonson; Rachel Day; Ali Terriff; and Ada Solidar.
On Friday, August 14, he was met in heaven by his great grandparents Henry and Ellen Haugen, great grandma Mina Simonson, grandpa Fritz Simonson, grandpa Duane Hiney, grandma Audrey Neff Hiney, and uncle Dewayne “Slice” Lesmeister.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the Claire Simonson education fund, C/O Gary Simonson or
