Gordon Langseth, 90, Fargo, ND, died Sunday July 9, 2017 surrounded by his family.
Gordon Allen Langseth was born April 19, 1927 to Hans and Martha Langseth in Glyndon, MN. He was raised on farms near Prosper and Argusville, ND. He attended grade school in rural Argusville and graduated from Oak Grove Lutheran High School in Fargo. He attended Concordia College.
Gordon married Ione Anstadt on August 28, 1948. They farmed and lived in rural Cass County for over 40 years. Gordon was named North Dakota State Outstanding Farmer and the Outstanding Diversified Farmer from the Fargo Rotary. He owned and operated several agricultural and real estate businesses. After leaving the farm, he and Ione lived in Fargo and Moorhead until moving to Elim Senior Living in 2015.
Gordon was a member of the Herby Lutheran Church in rural Cass County until his family was raised. He served as Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent, Church Council member and sang in the choir. He has been a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Fargo for the past 20 years where he has also served on the Church Council and as a member of the choir and gospel singing group.
Gordon was a Dale Carnegie Instructor and a member and President of the Board of Regents at Oak Grove. He was awarded the “Living the Mission” award at Oak Grove as outstanding alumni.
Gordon enjoyed working on cars and equipment, building and remodeling houses, reading and writing poetry, and watching his kids, grandkids, and other “Grover” kids participate in sports and music. Gordon loved spending time with his friends and family, sharing stories and laughing with his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. Gordon loved life and always had a twinkle in his eye.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 69 years, Ione; brothers, Robert (Delores) of Calumet, MI and James (Faye) of Rolla ND; children, Roger (Geri), Fargo, Marc (Mary), Fargo, Jon (Dana), Maui, HI and Paula of Peoria, AZ; 12 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Hans; mother, Martha and bother Gene.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Oak Grove Lutheran School or St. John Lutheran Church.
