On Friday, February 10, 2023, Glenn A. Bender, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully in his home. The funeral will be Thursday, February 16, at 10:00 am at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home in Fargo.
Glenn was born July 30, 1944, in Eureka, SD, to Alvin and Ida Bender. He grew up on a farm near Leola, SD, before attending college in Vermillion. While in college, he met his future wife, Jenney Schumack. They were married in 1966 and began their lives together in Fort Dodge, Iowa, where Glenn worked for Ozark Airlines. In July of 1967, they were blessed with their first son, Durand. In 1972, they moved their family to Fargo, ND, where they welcomed their 2nd child, Shaun, in 1977 and a daughter, Tiffany, in 1981.
Over the years, Glenn held many different jobs/careers. One of those, Travel and Transport, led to many opportunities to travel all over the world. He was also very active in both the Shrine and the Elks. He was part of the Escort Patrol and judged competitions once he was done driving. For the last 20 years, Glenn worked for Van Raden Properties in Fargo.
He still worked each day from 6:30 am-5:00 pm. He also kept busy refurbishing and fixing guns. This was a passion of his. The winding road through life and its' experiences was the reason he knew so much about so many things. He was the go-to guy for information on just about anything.
Glenn will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was once the life of the party, the storyteller, the fun-loving friend. In his life, he worked hard to provide for his family. Sometimes that took him away from home, but his love could be felt even when far away. In the last years, his grandchildren were the ones who brought him the most joy. He would rush home from work to get to spend time with them. He was so proud of all of his grandchildren. Grandpa will forever be watching over and protecting them.
He is survived by his wife, Jenney; son, Shaun (Jennah); daughter, Tiffany (Jason); grandchildren, Corah, Kaylee, Ethan, and McKenna; and a brother, Gerald. He was preceded in death by his son, Durand, and his parents, Ida and Alvin.
