They moved to Glendorado, MN, and later, she graduated from Princeton (MN) High School. She received a BA from Moorhead State University, and an MS from NDSU. She married Reed Sanford on June 17, 1955 (div. 1979). They lived in Minneapolis, Crookston, MN, and finally, Fargo, ND, in 1960. Glenda married her childhood friend Vernon Almlie on August 12, 1995.
Glenda's career and her decades of volunteer service allowed her natural organizing and leadership abilities to shine. She served on and led numerous social services boards, including co-creating the F-M Hotline crisis line and being the Executive Director of the F-M YWCA Women's Shelter. She was a staunch defender of women's rights and a strong advocate for families in crisis. Her sharp mind, her courage, and her wonderful sense of humor will be missed.

She is survived by her grandchildren, Rob, Sean, and Stephen (Toni) Sanford, and Hugh, Elise, and William Van Scoy. She is survived by her step-children, Jurgan Almlie of Ellendale, ND, William (Lande) Almlie of Everson, WA, and Ann (Jonn) Strausser of Coralville, IA; and 10 step-grandchildren. She is survived by her brother-in-law, Erling Almlie of Minneapolis. She is also survived by her beloved cousins and long-time friends.
