Glen E. Keim, 85, of Fargo, ND, died Monday, November 7, 2011, at Sanford Health, Fargo. Glen Egbert Keim was born February 23, 1926, in Jonesboro, Indiana, where he attended grade school and high school. He joined the U.S. Navy August 8, 1943 and was honorably discharged. He re-enlisted in 1956, serving a total of 12 years and four months. He served during WWII and the Korean War. He was stationed in the Pacific, Boot Camp at Great Lakes, Illinois and Hosp. Corp School at Mair Island Naval Hospital, California. Glen served on the hospital ship Treasure Island in San Francisco. He was on an air craft carrier in the Mediterranean. Glen served during the first invasion of Saipan and third invasion of Guam Peleieu. He fought in the battles at Saipan, Guam, Peleieu, Samara, Philippines and Leyte. He was there when the troops raised the flag at Iwo Jima. He battled at Okinawa and Occupation Japan. He worked at the Medical Research Center in Bethesda, Maryland. Glen married Anna Marie Green June 4, 1956, in Washington, D.C., at St. Luke’s Methodist Church. They moved to Fargo and Glen was employed at Gustafson Seed Treat Co., attended Hanson’s Auto School and worked at Horvik Electric in Moorhead until his retirement in 1980. He and Anna also owned and managed the Tastee-Freeze in West Fargo from 1968 – 1996. Glen belonged to the United Methodist Church where he was involved in teaching Sunday school for 11 years and sang in the church choir for 45 years. He was also involved in Boy Scouts for 30 years. He loved traveling in their motor home, visiting with people and was an avid Bison supporter. Glen went on the Honor Flight trip to Washington, D.C. and enjoyed it immensely Glen was preceded in death by his mother, Lola; and father, Harry; his wife, Anna, who died in February of 2002; a daughter that died at birth; and his brother, Keith; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Evelyn and Arnold Boehmlehner; and sister-in-law, Blanche Kaye. He is survived by brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Chuck and Phyllis Green; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Service: Friday, November 11, 2011, at 10:00 AM, at First United Methodist Church, Fargo. Visitation: Thursday, November 10, 2011, from 5-7 PM, at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo. Burial: Fairmount Cemetery, Fairmount, ND.
