Gladys Myrtle Velo, 99, of Moorhead, MN, died Thursday, January 26, 2012, at Sanford Palliative Care in Fargo. Gladys was born November 27, 1912, in Rothsay, MN, to Alfred and Clara (Froslie) Toso. She was baptized and confirmed at South Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Rothsay. She attended a country school, District #82 and completed 8th grade. On December 21, 1931, she married Elmer Arnold Velo and they made their home on the farm close to his family’s homestead near Rothsay, MN. In 1946, they moved to Pelican Rapids, MN, where they operated the Pelican Café. They were members of Trinity Lutheran Church. She enjoyed working at the Pelican Valley Hospital as a nurse’s aide for several years. Elmer died in 1971. In 1993, she moved to Fargo, ND and in 2008, became a resident of Eventide Lutheran Home in Moorhead. She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church. Her family was always first in her life and she loved spending time with them. Her cooking and baking were the best. She also enjoyed playing cards, solving word puzzles, crocheting, embroidering and traveling. A highlight for her was a trip to Norway in 1983. Gladys is survived by her three daughters, Darlyne (Bud) Knutson, Fergus Falls, MN; Junielle Olah, Fargo, ND; and Judy (Mike) Muhle, Fargo, ND; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and ten great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruby Danielson, Fargo, ND; Betty Nettestad, Moorhead, MN; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters, Viola Martinson and Arlyne Grunewald; and three brothers, Morris, Clifford, and Curtis Toso. Funeral Service: Monday, January 30, 2012, at 11:00 AM, at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo. Visitation: One hour prior to the service. Burial: Ringsaker Cemetery, Pelican Rapids, MN. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Messiah Lutheran Church Hour of Worship.
