Gladys B. (Gilbertson) Brenden Smaby

Gladys Beverly (Gilbertson, Brenden) Smaby, 97, Fargo, ND passed away on Monday, September 16, 2024 at Eventide Fargo.

Gladys was born to Gutfred and Bertha (Sorum) Gilbertson on August 25, 1927 in Hillsboro. She attended school in Caledonia and received her high school diploma. Gladys married Bryan C. Brenden in Hillsboro, ND. Gladys was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, in Hillsboro for over 35 years. She was employed by the Hillsboro School District as a cook, and was a nursing home activity director at both the Hillsboro Nursing Home and Riverview Place, Fargo, ND. Gladys sold Avon door to door for many years. Her first husband, Bryan passed away in 1987.

Following her marriage to Bryan, Gladys then married John Smaby. They remained happily married until his death on November 20, 2000. Following her marriage to John, Gladys spent many years in the company of her good friend, Einar Buringrud. Einar passed away in 2021.

Gladys is survived by her children Bradley Neil (Mary) Brenden of Glenwood, MN and Daniel Scott Brenden of West Fargo, ND; three grandsons: Bryan (Jacey) Brenden, East Grand Forks, MN; Billy Brenden, Burnsville, MN; and Nicholas (Ichi) Brenden of Edina, MN. Gladys adored her six great grandchildren: Jacelyn, Liam, Bray, Kaia, Milo and Keanu.

She was preceded in death by 8 brothers and 1 sister.
