Gladys Kurtz, 78, of Fargo, ND, died Tuesday, December 9, 2008, at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, ND. Gladys was born July 5, 1930, in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of William and Theresa (Fried) Rogers. She was a graduate of Jamestown High School. After graduation, she worked for Central Motors as a bookkeeper. On July 15, 1951, she married Elmer Kurtz of Sykeston, ND. When they moved from Jamestown to Fargo in 1952, she worked at Dakota Clinic in the insurance department until 1954, when she devoted her time to raising her family. She eventually returned to work at Scheels Hardware as a bookkeeper, then moved to Bob Fritz Sporting Goods initially, as the bookkeeper, and then as part owner. Later positions included, sales rep at Check Rite and casino manager/dealer for Red River Human Services. She finally retired in 2004. Gladys was a Girl Scout and 4H Member in her youth. As an adult, she was deeply involved with Cub Scouts and ran the Fargo City Scouting Workshop for quite a number of years. In recognition of her contribution to Scouting, she received the highest award in Boy Scouts. Gladys greatly loved people, bridge, bowling, fishing, the lakes, family and friends. Gladys is survived by her husband, Elmer of Fargo, ND; three children, Steve and wife Kellie of Woodstock, MD; Jeff and wife Tracy of Milbank, SD; Doug and wife Jill of Fargo, ND; seven grandchildren, Natalya, Rachel, Matthew, Dylan, Wyatt, Anna and Evan. Her parents preceded her in death. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff at MeritCare Hospital who cared for her.
