Gerald Donald Lovell, 74, of Pelican Lake, MN and Peoria, AZ, died peacefully Sunday, May 17, 2015, in Peoria, Arizona, with his loving family at his side.

A service honoring his life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 29 at Cormorant Lutheran Church. Interment will be in Cormorant Cemetery immediately following the ceremony. A celebration of his life will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Fair Hills on Pelican Lake.

Gerald Donald Lovell, the son of Wallace Lovell and Rose Waszut, was born March 23rd, 1941, in Pullman, Washington where he grew up and attended school until 1949 when he moved to Moorhead, MN. He graduated from Moorhead High School in 1959 and attended the University of Missouri before being drafted and serving 2 years in Germany with the US Army from 1963 to 1965. Following his honorable discharge, Jerry returned to college and graduated from Moorhead State University where he received his degree in Business Administration. Jerry met the love of his life, Roberta Tait, at a graduation gathering in 1959 at Pelican Lake. They were married on September 2, 1966 and were married for 48 years.

Jerry started his lifelong career with Fargo Glass and Paint in 1961 as a young salesman in the showroom, and rose steadily through the ranks to become President in 1981. He retired in 2006, and continued to serve as Chairman of the Board of Directors until his death. Jerry was an extremely active and well-respected business executive in the Fargo/Moorhead community, sitting on many charity and non-profit boards, and giving generously across the community. An athlete at heart, Jerry loved to compete. As a player, he excelled at baseball, basketball, football, and track. As a father, he loved nothing more than watching his kids compete in all of their sporting events, and attended these events whenever he could. As a spectator and fan, he enjoyed cheering on his hometown NDSU Bison. On most Wednesdays and Saturdays, you could find Jerry at the golf course with his best friends having the time of his life. When he wasn’t engaged in friendly competition on the golf course, he was exploring the lakes in search of the perfect walleye. Nobody could tell a story quite like Jerry. Stick him in a room with a bunch of strangers, and he would have them laughing within minutes. He had a way of making people feel at ease around him by using wit and humor. He was a true family man, and spent countless hours with his kids ensuring they all knew how to properly shoot a free throw, tie their shoes, or hammer a nail. He loved to spend time with those who were most important in his life, and found many opportunities to do so; either on the golf course, at a party, on a fishing trip, or simply by living the “lake” life to its fullest.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 48 years Roberta; his sons, Steve (Kara) of Golden Valley, MN; Jeff (Stacey) of Minneapolis, MN; daughter, Jill (Eric) Englund of Chanhassen, MN; 6 grandchildren, Reese, Peyton, Mason, Tait, Oliver, and Hudson; and his brothers -in-law, Craig and Brad Tait. He was preceded in death by his
parents Wallace and Rose.
