Gerald "Gerry" Norman Fiechtner

Gerald “Gerry” Fiechtner was born October 8, 1937 to Fred and Selma Fiechtner. He was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Forks, ND and confirmed March 18, 1951 at Grace Lutheran Church, Fargo, by the Rev. Arnold Grumm. He was married to Joyce Bergh from 1960-1971. He married Joan Robberstad Fredrickson in 1973.

Gerry was welcomed to his Heavenly home Nov. 15, 2017 under the tender care of Rosewood on Broadway, Hospice of the Red River Valley and the loving care from his family. A special thank you to all the staff at Rosewood Rainbow Square and the dignified, kind and detailed care from the staff on Prairie Rose Memory Care Unit.

Gerry was honored to be a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church and a supporter of Grace Lutheran School, Oak Grove Lutheran School, Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch and Concordia University, St. Paul, MN.

Gerry began working in his dad’s store, NODAK, in 1953. After serving in the US Army from 1961-1964, Gerry continued his early career at the store until 1969, when he became co-owner with his brother.

Gerry served on the foundation board for Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch for 10 years, one of which he served as chairman. He also served as chairman for Grover Club, Oak Grove Lutheran School. Gerry was a very humble, generous and loving man and found much joy in giving, which he viewed as an opportunity to help others.

Gerry was a charter member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church from 1981-present. He served on various boards and shared his beautiful bass voice for many years as a faithful member of the church choir. He served as the first organist at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church starting in 1981 and assisted in that capacity until 1995.

Gerry and Joan spent 16 enjoyable years in their winter home experiencing the beautiful South West in Henderson, NV.

Gerry is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Joan; sons, Jon Fiechtner, Wickenburg, AZ, Matthew Fiechtner (Juliette), Fargo; daughters, Lori Fiechtner Paakh, Detroit Lakes, MN, Teresa Driscoll (Shawn), Fargo; grandchildren, Jessica, Jocelyn, Laura, Melissa, Jillian, Pierce, Grayson; great-grandchildren, Sterling, Noah, and James; sister, Eunice Menezes (Euo), Cupertino, CA; sister-in-law, Sandy Bergo (Gordie), Peoria, AZ; brother and sister-in-law, Marla and Ron Effertz, Boulder City, NV; Ed Herrmann (Carol), Fargo, whom Gerry considered his second brother, and many nieces and nephews.

Gerry was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bob Fiechtner, and grandson, Shane Driscoll.

Visitation is 5:30-7pm followed by a prayer service at 7pm, Monday, November 20 at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home. Golf stories and “Gerry Jokes” are welcomed at the prayer service. The funeral is 11am Tuesday at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, Fargo. Burial is at Riverside Cemetery, Fargo.
