Gerald Anderson, 83, Fargo, ND died peacefully on Saturday February 12th, 2011 at Elim Care Center in Fargo. Gerald Orville Anderson was born March 25th, 1927 in Fort Ransom, ND to Onie (Guttormson) Anderson and Hilmar Anderson. He was confirmed at Standing Rock Lutheran Church and graduated from Fort Ransom High School in 1945. Gerry joined the United States Navy in 1945 and served aboard ship in Tsingtao, China. After returning to the states he attended NDAC in the engineering department. While attending college classes he worked for Herbst Department store on Broadway in Fargo – where he met Esther Stach. They were married in Goodrich, ND on April 12th, 1953. Upon completion of his engineering studies Gerry took a job with the ND Highway Dept for which he and Esther traveled throughout the state, moving during summers to each construction sight. Needing to set down roots with his growing family he took a position with the City of Fargo as a civil engineer. He retired from the city in 1992, after 35 years of service. Gerry enjoyed many hobbies during his lifetime, including tinkering and woodworking, photography, camping with the family, and in later years, RVing excursions with Esther. Over the years he was involved as a leader in boy scouting, civil defense, the City and County Employees Credit Union, and Calvary United Methodist Church. He had a lifelong love of reading. He is fondly remembered for his storytelling, dry wit and love of all things Norwegian. Gerry was preceded in death by sons, Donald and Ricky. He is survived by his wife, Esther L (Stach) Anderson, and children, Keith (Kathy) Anderson, Sioux Falls SD, Lorri (Jim Beck) Anderson, Princeton MN, Jan (Curtis) Ness, Fargo, and 9 grandchildren. Memorials to Calvary United Methodist Church. Funeral: Wednesday, February 16, 2011, 2:00 PM at Calvary United Methodist Church, Fargo, ND. Visitation: Tuesday, February 15, 2011 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Calvary United Methodist, followed by at Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Burial: Riverside Cemetery, Fargo, ND.
