Genevieve Alfrida Goodnough, 96, Moorhead, MN, passed away suddenly November 11, 2021, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND.
Genevieve was born July 2, 1925, in Petersburg, ND to Julius B. and Alma (Bjugstad) Gedstad. While she was still a baby they moved to White Earth, ND and when she was 12 to Bagley, MN.
After graduating from high school in 1943 she moved with her parents to Portland, OR where they all worked in the shipyards during WWII and Gen was a welder. She talked her best friend Lolly Archibald into joining her in Portland.
After the war they returned to Bagley and in 1948 she married her husband, Lyle Goodnough. They moved to Memphis, TN while Lyle attended Optometry School. They spent the next 35 years in Wheaton, MN, where Lyle was the Optometrist.
When Lyle retired, they moved to Burnsville to be closer to their grandchildren. They moved to Moorhead in 1996. Lyle passed away in 2002. That year, Gen started volunteering at the Roger Maris Cancer Center, passing out snacks to patients, knitting lap blankets and baby caps and booties for Sanford Children's Hospital accumulating 15,000 hours. She enjoyed reading and making lefse and krumkake.
She is survived by daughters Julie (Jeff) Holman, Roseville, MN; Janet (Darren) Baumgartner, Fargo, ND; daughter-in-law Bonnie Goodnough, Maple Grove, MN; Grandchildren Lance (Dawn) Goodnough, New Hope, MN; Kari (Steve) Fenske, Cross Plains, WI; Brian (Becky) Hammarsten, Minnetrista, MN; and Great Grandsons Alexander and Connor Goodnough, Wesley and Keegan Hammarsten.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lyle, son Vince, grandson Scott, sister Hazel and brothers Donald, Raymond and Oliver.
