Geneva Westland, 99, of Fargo, ND, died Thursday, March 11, 2010, at Elim Care Center, Fargo. Geneva Braaten was born February 10, 1911, at Golden Lake Township, Portland, ND, daughter of John and Anne (Skogbraten) Braaten. Her parents immigrated from Valdres, Norway in the late 1800’s. She attended school at Portland until eighth grade. She worked as a housekeeper during the depression. Geneva married Casper Westland December 2, 1931, in Detroit Lakes, MN. They lived on a farm near Hatton, North Dakota. In 1950, they moved to Fargo. Casper died in 1958. Geneva worked as a cook in various restaurants and the TKE Fraternity House at NDSU. In 1982, Geneva took a trip with her daughter Dorothy to Norway. She enjoyed meeting and visiting with her relatives and seeing where her parents grew up. Geneva was active in her First Lutheran Church circle, and Wednesday Fellowship, Homemakers Club, Hatton, ND, and enjoyed making quilts, sewing and cooking. She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy (Clifford) Heidt, Fargo, ND; and a daughter-in-law, Genevieve Westland, Ayr, ND; and five grandchildren, Connie, Deann, Terry, Patty and Julie and four great-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Casper; two brothers, Noris and Ole Braaten; sister, Gina Rismon; son, James Westland and infant son, Clayton Westland and infant granddaughter, Susan Westland Funeral Service: Saturday, March 20, 2010, at 10:00 AM, at First Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND.
