Gene Schobinger age 65, passed away unexpectedly on March 7, 2022 at his home in Surprise, AZ.

Gene Lynn Schobinger was born on December 20, 1956 in Moorhead, MN to the parents of Betty (Davis) and Robert E. Schobinger.

Gene grew up in Fargo, ND and graduated from Fargo South High School in 1975. After high school Gene started working at Steiger Tractor. He then met Kathie (Dockter) and they were married in 1976 at First Congregational Church in Fargo. After getting married Gene & Kathie moved to Gardner, ND in 1977. They have 2 sons Robert & Brian, they started SWEN Weathervanes in 1998 from their home garage while Gene was still working at Steiger Tractor. He worked for Steiger for a total of 19 years all while going to craft shows on the weekends. This lead to going full time with the family business. Gene and Kathie loved going to shows and seeing their crafting friends on the weekends. He loved tinkering in the shop and coming up with new ideas. The late nights are when he came up with his best ideas!

While Gene and Kathie lived in Gardner, Genes passion was SWEN and also his annual Halloween and Christmas Light Shows. This is something that Gene enjoyed very much, he loved seeing the smiles of everyone’s faces when they would watch from their cars or talk to him about it. He won the Fargo Forums Griswold’s award twice. He continued his passion for lights while he was in AZ.

Gene is survived by his wife Kathie, sons Robert (Kim), and Brian, three grandchildren Brody, Madison & Morgan, his mother Betty Schobinger (Mike) Mickelson, siblings Lee (Judy) Schobinger of Sheldon ND, Gail (Mounty) West of Peoria AZ, Meri (Curtis) Thompson of Wamego KS, Sue (Rick) Meyer of Hiawatha, IA; and Robb (Mavis) Schobinger of Oxbow, ND, sister in-law Iris Swedlund of Velva, ND, and John (Mona) Dockter of Mandan, ND. He also had several nieces/nephews and great nieces/nephews, one aunt Adeline Jensen of Colorado Springs, CO as well as numerous relatives. Gene was preceded in death by his father Robert E Schobinger, his brother Roger Schobinger, brother in-law Tony Swedlund and grandparents.
