Gary Dean Woodbury, 79, Fargo, ND; entered into his heavenly home on January 29, 2022, at a Mesa, Arizona hospital from complications of COVID.
Gary was born on August 8, 1942, in Breckenridge, MN. He grew up on a farm in rural Barney, ND, and attended Antelope Township schools. His senior year, he transferred to Wyndmere High School, where he met the love of his life, Joann Haugen. Gary attended the North Dakota State School of Science (NDSSS), after which he joined the family's farming business. Gary and Joann married on July 13, 1964, and had 35 years together before her death in 1999. Together they had two children, Kara and Alane.
Gary would talk fondly of his life in rural North Dakota, and even up to this past year, he helped out on the farm during planting and harvest. He was proud to be a farmer and involved himself in the promotion of farm commodities through his work on the N.D. Soybean Growers' Association, ND Soybean Council, and Minn-Dak Farmers' Cooperative Board.
Gary was a generous and loving man who worked hard to care for his family. He also knew how to have fun, whether it was flying one of his small airplanes, talking to his fellow "hams" from far and wide as "WB0QHC," or traveling around the U.S. with his family. He loved life and lived with gusto. He gave back to his community in many ways as well, including serving on the church and cemetery boards of Grace Lutheran Church and Gol Aal Cemetery for many years.
In his retirement years, Gary moved to Fargo and wintered in Arizona, where in recent years, he enjoyed the company of his good friend, Carol. Together they attended many concerts, Bison football games, and family gatherings. He enjoyed celebrating birthdays and holidays and was a great host. One thing he was looking forward to was celebrating 8-0 in August.
Gary (lovingly known as "daddyo" or "Woody 2") is survived by two daughters, Kara (Paul) Woodbury Fladland and Alane Woodbury, both of Fargo; special friend, Carol Aagenes; siblings- Roland (Fran) Woodbury of Fargo and Mesa; Sharon (Duren) Moffet of Kerrville, TX; Denise Rogers of Moorhead, MN; sister-in-law, Karen (LeRoy) Munoz of Roseville, CA: brother-in-law, Donnie Haugen of Wyndmere, ND; 15 nieces and nephews, multiple cousins and life long friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Joann (Haugen) Woodbury; parents, Ardy and Velma (Bahr) Woodbury; brother-in-law Marlyn Haugen and sister-in-law, Marian Haugen.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial gift to one of the following organizations; CHI Friendship, Inc. (providing care for Alane for the last 20+ years); Hope Lutheran Church Foundation; or Gol Aal Cemetery Association.
Blessed be the memory of Gary Woodbury, a friend to all he met.
