Gary A. Skavlem of Fargo, formally of Williston sadly passed away at his home June 6th, 2011. A celebration of his life will be at 1:30 P.M. on Friday, June 10th, 2011 at Bethany Lutheran Church in East Grand Forks Minnesota. The Reverend Bud Johnson will officiate. Gary will be buried alongside his parents at the church cemetery. Gary was born September 26th, 1945 to Arthur and Sylvia (Johnson) Skavlem in Grand Forks, ND. He was raised on the family dairy farm and attended Alvarado schools graduating in 1963. After graduation, he enlisted in Army Reserves. After his term of service, Gary attended Northwestern University in Chicago becoming certified in prosthetics, a profession he worked in most of his adult life. In 1965, Gary married Nancy Martin. To this union daughters Dawn, Gwen, and Nicole were born. On June 4th, 1982 Gary married Lorna Sandvik. Gary and Lorna made their home in Williston with their children Garrett and Brianna. Gary is survived by his wife Lorna. Children Dawn (Jeff) Ambuehl of Gwinner, ND, Ashley, Cody and Ambrosia; Gwen Klawon of Larimore, ND Kristen and Nicholas; Nicole (David) Lang of Rosemount, MN Shantel, Nathan, Ryan, and Michael; Garrett (Melissa) Skavlem of Williston, ND Kaisha; Brianna (Aaron) Shapiro of Fargo. A brother Marvin Skavlem of Fordville, ND; Sisters Lois (Matt) Bubb of Duluth, MN; and Janice (Milton) Kleven of Battle Ground, WA along with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Gary was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Sylvia Skavlem and his granddaughter Melissa Klawon.
