Gary Lee Kvittum, 82, of Fargo, ND, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on February 12th.
Gary was born April 22nd, 1942 in Fargo, ND, the son of Elmer Kvittum and Adeline (Malstrom) Kvittum.
Gary graduated from Moorhead High School in 1960, then attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN before enlisting in the Army National Guard, which he served in for a number of years.
Gary married Nancy Farlow on November 26th, 1965. In their 50 years of marriage they lived in Moorhead and Fargo, raised two daughters, and shared their home with numerous dogs and cats. Their home was always open to family, friends, and all the neighborhood kids.
Always a hard worker, Gary pursued a variety of careers during his life. As a young man he worked road construction and was proud of having helped build the interstate highway system. He worked most of his career in retail for both Straus and DeLendrecie's, and also worked in the wholesale garment industry for Haggar Apparel. Later in his life he put the carpentry skills he had learned helping his Grandfather build houses in his youth to work building custom closets and storage units doing business as Closet Concepts. He also operated a copy business called A/O Copies for a number of years.
Gary loved horses and owned a few as a young man. His life-long passion was cars, especially classic cars. He considered himself lucky to have owned several classic Corvettes throughout his life. He loved meeting and talking to people and thanks to his excellent memory and gregarious nature could find connections between just about anyone.
Over the years he was active in a number of organizations including a dance club and multiple car clubs. He was especially proud of his and Nancy's work fundraising for Public Television in the early 1970's.
Gary's profound empathy and interest in people made a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Gary is survived by his daughter, Dorothy of Golden Valley, MN; daughter, Deborah of Fargo ND; grandcats, Dapple and Magpie. He was preceded in death by wife, Nancy; and parents.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Gary's memory may be directed to Hospice of the Red River Valley, American Heart Association, or your local animal shelter.
