Fred Anderson, 89, died on Monday January 22 at his home in Moorhead.
Frederick Oliver Anderson was born in Fargo in 1928 to Einar and Margaret Anderson. He entered service in the United States Navy in 1946. He served 2 years as Petty Officer 3rd Class - Paymaster and was stationed in California, Maryland and Florida. In 1948 he returned to Fargo to work the family farm and entered the construction business working for Power's Construction. He married Esther in 1950. He built his family home in Moorhead. He was involved in many Fargo/Moorhead construction projects including the Fargo Library. He worked for Moorhead Public Schools as Chief Engineer Buildings and Grounds. He moved to Fargo Public Schools in 1968 as Superintendent Buildings and Grounds. In 1972 he was hired as General Manager of West Acres and ended his working career there 21 years later. In addition to Fred's "day jobs" he has worked tirelessly in his community. He is a lifetime member of Pontoppidan Lutheran Church, and elected official for Oakport Township and 36 years at the Red River Valley Fair Board including service as President. He and Esther have been married for 67 years.
Fred is survived by his wife, Esther; four children, Keith (Pam) Anderson, Linda (Bob) Dahl, JoAnne Anderson, and James (Renae) Anderson; five grandchildren, Jesse (Jennifer) Anderson, Jared (Nicole) Anderson, Robert (Lucy) Kappel, Matthew Dahl, and Connor Anderson; and seven great-grandchildren, Tanner, Hayden, Owen, Abram, Solomon, Eleanor and Bridger.
He was preceded in death by his mother Margaret, father Einar, and brother Birger Anderson.
