Frances June Scott

April 7, 1924 — March 31, 2015

Frances Scott, age 90, of Fargo, ND died at Essentia Health in Fargo, with her children by her side. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00pm on Saturday, April 25, at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home in Fargo. As per Fran’s request, an Irish Celebration of Life will be held directly after the service; location to be determined.

Frances June Sweeney was born April 7, 1924 in Fargo, ND to Matthew and Clara Sweeney; she was the youngest of 9. She graduated from Fargo Central High School and Dakota Business College. Fran was a legal secretary for many years with the Dosland & Dosland Law Firm in Moorhead.

Frances married Leigh “PeeWee” Scott on August 4, 1950. They lived in Fargo where they raised 2 children, Steven and Shannon. Fran spent the final years of her career working in the administrative office of the Teamsters Union. She was proud of her Irish heritage and would celebrate every St. Paddy’s day with gusto. Fran was a spirited Democrat who was willing to get into a heated discussion with any Republican who would cross her path. She was truly a force
to be reckoned with.

Following retirement, Fran and PeeWee spent 17 winters in Mesa, AZ, where she enjoyed, as she put it….doing nothing. After forty years of work, sleeping until 10 am was at the top of her list of things to do. Fran’s creativity blossomed in AZ, she took watercolor classes and began to quilt and sew beautiful works of art. She could look at a craft magazine, find something she liked and skillfully create a wonderful stuffed toy for one of her grandchildren. They were the light of her life; there was nothing she wouldn’t do for those kids.

She is survived by her son, Steven (Susan) Scott, Fargo; daughter, Shannon Charpentier, Fargo; grandchildren, Sam, Jessie (Chad) Volk, Coleman (Melissa) and Jake (Lori) Scott, and Matt Charpentier; and great-grandchildren, Piper Volk, Calleigh, Taylor, Hunter, Maxwell and Riley Scott. Fran also cherished the time spent with her sister’s families, Lloyd (Karen) Jackson, Roy (Jan) Jackson and their children; and the McDonald clan from Detroit Lakes.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Bud and Clifford; sisters, Lillian, Peggy, Margaret, Betty, Neva and Dorothy.

A special thank you to the providers at IMA Healthcare and Touchmark Memory Care for the wonderful care they gave her. Our family is comforted knowing that the entire original Sweeney Gang is all together in heaven, with glasses raised, and an Irish toast;

May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face.
And rains fall soft upon your fields.
And, until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
