Florence Whitman, 92 of Fargo, ND, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 21, 2008, at Bethany Homes in Fargo. Florence M. Nelson was born September 20, 1916 in Antler, ND, to John R. and Grace E. (Murray) Nelson. She grew up in Clyde, ND, and moved with her family to Fargo in 1934. After graduating from Interstate Business School, she went to work as a secretary/stenographer at NDAC. She married Warren C. Whitman on August 16, 1941, at Plymouth Congregational Church in Fargo, ND. During the war years, she moved with Warren to bases around the United States until he was deployed to Europe. After World War II, they returned to Fargo. Warren continued his career at NDSU (formerly NDAC). She and Warren spent many summers with their family in Dickinson, ND, for his work at the NDSU Experiment Station. After her children were grown, she returned to work at the Division of Independent Study at NDSU. During their retirement years, Florence and Warren enjoyed traveling and many get-togethers with family and friends at Lake Eunice and their lake home at Upper Bottle Lake, MN. Florence was an active, long time member of Plymouth Congregational Church Ladies Circle. She was a loving, gentle person who treasured her family and friends. She is survived by her sons, Dan (Pat) Whitman, Fargo, ND; Mark (Judy) Whitman, Minot, ND; and her four grandchildren, Scott, Anne, Melissa and Tyler.
