Florence Jordahl, 95, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 18, 2016. She had been a resident at Bethany on 42nd in Fargo for the past 5 years.
Florence Evaline Hektner was born to Gustav and Alma (Huss) Hektner on July 17, 1921 in Wahpeton, ND. At the age of three, upon the death of her mother, she went to live in Fargo where she was raised by her Grandmother and Aunts. She graduated from Central High School in 1939 and went on to obtain a degree in Home Economics from the Agricultural College (NDSU) in Fargo.
After graduating, Florence taught at the Training School in Mandan and then was led to a teaching position in Lidgerwood, ND where she met Sivert Jordahl, Jr. In June of 1947 they were married in Fargo, where Sivert took a teaching job.
Florence served as a Cub Scout Den Mother and Home Room mother when her children attended grade school. She was an active member of Pontoppidan Lutheran Church in Fargo, where she served on the church council, taught Sunday School, led youth activity groups, and visited member shut-ins.
Florence was known as an excellent cook. Many friends, family, and acquaintances enjoyed sitting at her table.
Sivert suffered a stroke in 1987 and for the next 6 ½ years Florence made daily trips to Rosewood on Broadway to visit and comfort him until his death in 1993. In recent years at Bethany she enjoyed reaching out by writing to friends and family and sharing her strong faith in the Lord.
Florence is survived by three sons, Delroy (Sue) of Moorhead, Rodney (Diane) of Fargo, and Jeffrey (Frances) of Moorhead; six grandchildren, Jessica (Ryan) Schumacher, Megan Jordahl, Jason Jordahl, Amy Jordahl, Lisa Jordahl, Brady Jordahl; one great-grandson, Hudson Schumacher; sister, Rhonda (Dorlan) Lybeck; sister-in-law, Hope Hektner and close family friends, Judy Wong and Will Shirk.
Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Sivert; an infant son, Larry; her parents; her step-mother, Margarett Hektner and a brother, Al Hektner.
The family wishes to thank the staff and residents at Bethany on 42nd for their care and concern for Florence during her time there.
Memorials to charities of your choice in her name would be appreciated.
