Evelyn Margaret Lund

Evelyn M. Lund, 91, West Fargo, died Saturday May 31, 2014 in Eventide at
Sheyenne Crossings, West Fargo, ND.

Evelyn Margaret Braniff was born February 16, 1923, at Doyon, North Dakota, to William and Julia Berg Braniff. She attended school in Doyon and graduated as class valedictorian. She attended Mayville State College, Mayville, ND. She received an associate’s degree in Elementary Education. Her first teaching position was at Garske, ND.

She married Russell Lund of Sharon, ND, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Doyon, on September 19, 1944. They lived at Carlisle, PA, while Russell served in the US Navy and Evelyn worked at Hoffman Manufacturing Company. They returned to North Dakota following Russell’s discharge in 1945 and lived in Dunseith where Russell served as coach, principal and teacher for one year. They then moved to Badger, MN, where Russell was coach, principal and teacher for two years. He then became the Superintendent and Evelyn taught sixth grade. In 1961 they moved to Clinton, MN, where Russell was Superintendent and Evelyn taught. She later was a substitute teacher and a tutor to homebound students for many years. She was active in community activities, served as a Sunday school teacher for over 30 years, was a Girl Scout leader, and was on the church council and call committee for Trinity Lutheran Church. While living in Clinton, Evelyn continued her education. She attended the University of Minnesota, Morris, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education and Library Science.

After retirement Evelyn and Russell moved to Fargo, ND. They enjoyed many travels and visited all states except Alaska. They enjoyed three trips to Europe and visited Canada and Mexico. They spent winters in Texas and Arizona.

While in Fargo, Evelyn volunteered at Olivet Church in the office and library.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Russell, of 62 years, and brother, Justin Braniff.

She is survived by her children Ronald (Linda), Las Vegas, NV, Bradley (Peymaneh), Laguna Beach, CA, and Karen (Larry) Buchele, Johnston, IA; seven grandchildren, Christopher (Stacey), Melissa, Jennifer, Erin, Patrick, Justin and David; and three brothers, Harold, Dalton and Donald Braniff.
