Evelyn J. Iken, 98, Fargo, ND, passed away Thursday, January 10, 2013, at Villa Maria in Fargo, ND. Evelyn was born June 23, 1914, to Jacob and Anna Jacobson, Kindred, ND. She was baptized and confirmed at Norman Lutheran Church in Kindred. Evelyn attended Richland County School, Moorhead High, and Dakota Business College.
She married Fred H. Iken in 1931. They lived in Fargo and raised one son, Robert. Evelyn worked at Herbst Department Store, NDSU, and Fairmont Retirement Home. She was a long-time member of Pontoppidan Lutheran Church. She was an active member in the Eagles Auxiliary, Royal Neighbors of America, and Retired Senior Volunteer Program. Evelyn cherished her time with friends and family. She was passionate about music and played the piano and organ.
Evelyn is survived by Beatrice Iken, daughter-in-law, Wadena, MN; four grandchildren, Suzanne (Mark) Uselman, Fargo, Brenda (Tom) Young, Alexandria, MN, Jennifer (Rich) Rentz, Alexandria, MN, and Robert Iken, II, Wadena, MN; ten great-grandchildren, Darin (Candi) Uselman, Megan Uselman, Ryan Uselman, Gretchen Uselman, Sarah (Ryan) Carey, Jon Rentz, Michael Rentz, James (Becky) Iken, Jessica Iken, and Nicole Iken; four great-great-grandchildren, Cale Carey, Avery Iken, Madison Uselman, and Treyson Uselman, brother-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters and brothers, husband, Fred, son Robert, and granddaughter, Gretchen.
Memorials preferred to Pontoppidan Lutheran Church, Oak Grove Lutheran High School, and Roger Maris Cancer Center.
