Evelyn Gilmore passed away peacefully on December 24th, 2012 in her 108th year, at her Touchmark residence in Fargo. She was born on November 18th, 1905 to Alfred and Marion Anderson in Willow City, ND, one of seven children. Evelyn graduated from high school in Willow City, attended Minot Teachers College and Moorhead State University, and taught in elementary schools in North Dakota and Montana. She ended her teaching career as a Special Education teacher at Lewis and Clark Elementary School in Fargo.
Evelyn married Tim Gilmore of Wilton, ND on November 30th, 1930 in Miles City, MT. Their first home was in Oakes, ND where their son Jack was born. A second son, Tom, was born shortly after their move to Fargo in 1943.
Evelyn was an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins and was honored by a special presentation at their field in Minneapolis. She enjoyed bridge with her friends and credited her interest in people, along with heredity, for her longevity. A sister lived to be 103 and all seven children in her family lived beyond the age of 80. In her final years, Evelyn was aided by several Hospice caregivers and was featured in their photo exhibition at the Plains Art Museum in 2011.
Evelyn is survived by her son Jack, of Orinda, CA; her daughter-in-law Jackie, of Pelican Rapids, MN; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Tim, her son Tom, her daughter-in-law Judy, her granddaughter Sue, her parents and six siblings.
Evelyn was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Fargo for 69 years, and a funeral service will be held there on Friday, January 4th at 10:00AM.
