Ethelyn Raveling, 88, of Valley City, ND, died Sunday, November 30, 2008, at Elim Care Center, Fargo. Ethelyn (Louden) Raveling, daughter of William and Anna Louden, was born in 1920, in Ransom County, North Dakota. Ethelyn was raised on a ranch east of Lisbon, North Dakota. Ethelyn, the youngest child, attended a rural grade school along with her three brothers, Vern, Millard, and Harold. She graduated from Lisbon High School. Ethelyn attended Valley City State Teachers College and received a two year teaching certificate. While attending Valley City State Teachers College, she met Harold Raveling. They were married in 1941, at the Salem Methodist Church, rural Valley City, ND. Ethelyn followed Harold to several of his Army postings during WWII, including Denver, CO, and New York City. Following WWII, they lived in Valley City. In 1947, they moved to the family farm northeast of Valley City. Ethelyn returned to Valley City State Teachers College in 1961, and finished a four year teaching degree, majoring in English and Library Science. In 1963, she started teaching at Lisbon High School, retiring in 1985. They moved back to Valley City in 1986. They were long time members of Salem Methodist Church and later Epworth United Methodist Church in Valley City. They moved to Riverview Place in Fargo in 1995. Ethelyn suffered a severe stroke in 1999 and was a resident of Elim Home in Fargo until her death. Ethelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; parents; her brothers, Vern and Millard; two infant daughters, who died at birth; and a great-grandson. Ethelyn is survived by a daughter, Carole (James) Westra, Park Rapids, MN; two sons, Don (Cathie), Bismarck, ND; and Dale, Fargo, ND; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral Service: Friday, 10:30 A.M., at Elim Care Center Chapel, Fargo, ND. Visitation: One hour prior to the service at Elim. Burial: Hillside Cemetery, Valley City, ND.
