Ernest Seolin Stadum

Rev. Ernest Seolin Stadum, 94, of Fargo, ND died December 10, 2019 at Rosewood Nursing Home.

Born on December 9, 1925 to Carl and Mabel Stadum at Esmond, he attended grade and high school at Baker, ND. After studying at Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis, Ernie attended Concordia College in Moorhead, graduating in 1954. He graduated from Luther Theological Seminary in St. Paul in 1958.

Ernest married Lilly Johanson of Flandreau, SD on August 27, 1955 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church. Ernest was ordained into the Lutheran ministry on June 15, 1958. Ernest’s first parish was at Milton, ND, serving from 1958 to 1962. His next parish was Bowdon, ND where he served through 1966, including Bowdon, Heaton and Hurdsfield. In 1966, the Stadums moved to Finley, ND serving Finley, Ostervold and Sheyenne Valley Lutheran Churches. In 1988, he accepted a call to Trinity Lutheran Church in Crookston. While at Crookston, his duties grew to include Beltrami and Scandia in addition to his work at Crookston. In 1990, Ernest accepted his final call to First Lutheran Church in Fargo, ND.

He is survived by his sister Elaine (Fargo), three children David (Cynthia), Mark (Kelly) and Miriam (Mark) Kindem, grandchildren Sarah (James) McKeown, Cole (Kelly) Kindem, Matthew (Ariel) Kindem, Dannica (Joe) Sturgeon, Michael (Christina) Stadum, Makenna Stadum and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Lilly, brothers Orville, Clifford, Norman and sisters Mildred, Selma and Ina.

Ernie’s life revolved around his family and church. His faith in our Lord Jesus Christ was always evident in how he lived. His life was a living demonstration of “being a humble servant”.

Thank you to all who have joined us in this celebration of Ernest’s life. We will forever miss his presence, gentle manner and quiet faith. We are comforted in knowing he is rejoicing in heaven and was met with a resounding “Well done, good and faithful servant”.
